A Song For The Rider
In 2016 we were participants in a contest that required we write a song that included the phrase "Ridin' on a Harley, feelin' the wind through my hair". I thought this would be a fairly simple song to write since I am a rider, and I know the freedom that comes with ridin' on a Harley, feelin' the wind through my hair.
The concept was pretty simple. If you grew up around riders, there are certain "rights of passage". Every kid puts a baseball (or playing) card in the spokes their bicycle (is that where bicycle brand playing cards came from?). As we age, there comes a time when the bike becomes a conversation piece, and in many cases, is passed down from dad or grandpa.
That is the life cycle of the rider and the motorcycle. I thought it was clever. We thought we would be slick and write the song early in the contest to gain a competitive edge. The problem is, they changed stage 3 before we got there, and our song was useless for the contest.
